At the airport you will be greeted by your driver who will take you to the hub of the cultural triangle, the town of Habarana. On the way you will have the opportunity to taste the famous King Coconut, visit a fruit plantation and finally the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage, which houses the abandoned and the wounded elephants. Here you can watch them been fed and bathed. After lunch, continue to the town of Sigiriya, within Sri Lanka’s rich cultural triangle. In the afternoon we visit the rock fortress of Sigiriya – a 5th Century “Fortress in the Sky”, a UNESCO world heritage. Adorning a palace on top of this large rock it is a must see in Sri Lanka. Today we will visit Sri Lanka’s biggest ancient city, Anuradhapura. Today a World Heritage site, it was the national capital for over 1300 years up to the 10th Century AD. You will visit an archaeological museum, the sacred Bo tree, Brazen Place, Royal Palace, Samadhi Buddha and more. Dinner and overnight in hotel in Sigiriya.
Today we go to one of the better kept ruins of ancient Ceylon – the UNESCO World Heritage City of Polonnaruwa, which was the medieval capital of Sri Lanka from the 11th – 13th century A.D. In the afternoon you will go to Minneriya National Park where we will do a jeep safari. This is usually a good place to spot wild elephants. After that we proceed back to your hotel in Sigiriya.
In the morning we leave for Kandy. On the way, we will make a stop at one of the more unusual temples buried in a maze – the UNESCO Golden Cave Temple in Dambulla. Further you will see a batik factory and colourful Hindu temple in Matale. Optional and free of charge we can also go to a spice garden. Shortly afterwards you will arrive in spiritual Kandy, surrounded by greenery and the great Mahaweli River. Kandy is also well known as the centre of Buddhism. There we will see the Temple of the Tooth Relic and in the evening a cultural dance performance. Dinner and overnight in a hotel in Kandy.
